Garage Beirut

Garage Beirut is a small Lebanese restaurant on MacKay that won praises from real Lebanese people. :) I think that verifies the authenticity of their food.

I’m not a stranger to middle eastern food. But I was still somewhat lost when looking at the menu filled with words I’ve never seen before. Good thing I had my Lebanese friend with me to recommend some of her favorites. :)

I was at first hesitant to order Shanklish because of the goat cheese. In general I’m not a big fan of strong tasting cheese. However, this is so well done with the herb and condiments that I don’t really taste the normal “goat” flavor in the dish. Wrap a bit of cheese in the pita bread and it’s simply delicious!

Fattouche is a simple salad with fried pita bread, a generous sprinkle of sumac spice, and pomegranate seeds garnished on top. All the extras added a crunchiness to the salad. Very refreshing.

Kabab is no doubt a signature dish. My favorite out of the four is definitely the chicken. It’s so juicy and tender!

Take a chuck of the kabab, dip it in hummus, then wrap it in a piece of pita bread. Yum!
